Why we are here
Ours is a call to personalize HIV prevention; acknowledging that in 2007 we recorded 2.5 new HIV infections worldwide. We realize that in Kenya the highest rate of infection is taking place between 15-34 years. With over 2.7% of AIDS cases occurring in youth aged 15-25 years in Kenya, our efforts are built on the foundation that HIV is a totally preventable infection, and that prevention is the only sustainable way of combating the pandemic.
We are supporting the Kenya National AIDS Control Council to prevent new HIV infections by scaling up Voluntary Counseling and Testing uptake by young people. We are addressing gaps identified by Kenya AIDS Indicator Survey 2007 on testing and counseling. We are addressing issues affecting youth as highlighted in the Ministry of Youth Strategic plan.
Our intention is to win the fight against HIV in two main fronts - prevention and care. To prevent the spread of HIV, we are mobilizing 1 Million youth KNOW THEIR CORRECT HIV STATUS and prevent further infections (to themselves and others alike).
To deal with the results,we are linking people living with HIV to support groups, where they can access quality care, treatment and support for longer, healthier and productive lives. While HIV testing is the gate way to care and treatment, it also serves as the entry point to sound decision making and planning.
